Nikon D5000 versus D90 -- feature gap yes, but is the image quality comparable?
I know the D90 is a great camera, and I may end up getting one.
But I'm interested in the D5000 because it's more affordable, has the same sensor, and last but not least has the articulated LCD display (I have a P&S with the flippy display and I love it).
Here is my question: If you take the same shot with these two cameras, in MANUAL shooting-mode, in RAW format-mode, and with all the settings the same, and with the same lens on both cameras . . .
Will the image quality be the same?
[I won't be buying bagsful of lenses, so the lack of a foucsing motor in the D5000 body is not a deal-breaker for me.]
one more question: If you could put the same lens on both cameras (and I know you can't), and do the same test as above, how would the image quality of the D5000 compare with the Panasonic Lumix G1?
The D90 is a far superior camera in my opinion because has lots of controls that make it suitable for advanced amateur photographers. The D5000 is has the same D90 sensor technology but mounted on a small body and with little controls, more suitable for beginners. Now, to answer your first question: if you take a shot with the two cameras mounting the same lens in the same conditions, the photo will be the same. But if to take that photo and you need a particular control to do so that D5000 does NOT have?
To answer your second question: the picture taken with the nikon and with the Panasonic both with the same lens will be different, simply because the sensor is different. Witch one is the best? I don't know.
