I have a question about Lcd Tv's?
I've been reading customer reviews about LCD tv's online and
some people mention that they find a dead pixel right out of the box on some of them. What exactly is a dead pixel, and should I specifically avoid those brands that have that problem?
I noticed that more than one brand/model of tv is said to have this problem. What causes it?
Also, what is the difference between HDTV and EDTV?
I'm sure that it is possible to get an LCD TV out of the box with a dead pixel, but it is fairly rare. I've been dealing with LCD technology since before it was available to consumers, going back to the Barco light cannons in the early '90's. As long as it's a recognizable name brand and not something from eBay or unknown brand only available from the Internet, your worries are minimal.
As for the distinction between HDTV and EDTV, HD has always been specified as 1080i, but consumer LCD technology was limited to 720p. But it could still accept HD inputs, so it was called HDTV. As manufacturers finally able to make true 1080 sets, they were the true HDTV sets, and the 720p became called EDTV sets (Enhanced or Extended Definition). All of them can accept HDTV, but only the 1080 sets can display true HDTV.
